RiverQuest "On The Road"

Beaver, Armstrong & Greene Counties

RiverQuest sails northwest to Beaver County on the Ohio, and northeast to Armstrong County on the Allegheny this spring.  This fall, we head southwest to Greene County on the Monongahela.  In each county, students and teachers climb aboard the houseboat laboratory Scout to explore the health and quality of aquatic ecosystems and how we as humans have a profound impact upon environmental health.

Public ticketed programs and group programs are presented after school hours as well. Since their

inception in Greene County, with students sailing on the Monongahela at Rice's Landing and on the Pumpkin Run Stream, RiverQuest Community School Programs have served over 5,500 students and teachers with a close-to-home focus.  In Armstrong County, the RiverQuest program is supported by a committee of local legislators, educators and community leaders.

The Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth Street Bridges that cross the Allegheny River linking the North Side to the Golden Triangle have historically been called the three sisters, but they have been named for some famous natives of the Pittsburgh region.

The Sixth Street Bridge, next to PNC Park, is named for Roberto Clemente, while the Seventh Street Bridge is named for famed pop artist Andy Warhol.  The Ninth Street Bridge was renamed in honor of Rachel Carson in 2006

Who was Rachel Carson?
