Coming soon: Exploring the Marcellus Shale
New Saturday Sail considers all sides of a hot topic

Soon, RiverQuest will launch a new Saturday Sail, Exploring the Marcellus Shale.  Learn about the sedimentary rock called shale, and why it has long been known as a potential but untapped source for fossil fuels. Hands-on activities let passengers discover how the process of "fracking" can be used to help extract oil and natural gas from rock, consider the environmental and municipal concerns related to fracking, and how risks might be addressed by drilling companies and municipalities.  Sails begin Saturday, May 7, and run through October 2011. Tickets are $5.95-$7.95, and will be available in the main lobby of Carnegie Science Center. [updated 4/19/11]
